Corinne Bailey Rae - “The Sea”

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

“The Blackest Lily” & “Closer” stand out on this dark record with Corinne’s, by now immediately recognizable grooves and distinctly unique and sultry voice. These songs make you want to drink wine and eat cheese while making love and dancing, amazing. Overall i feel like its such a dark record, but that’s really what happens when you’re going through a lot as an artist/musician. Your environment is a direct reflection of where you’re at if you’re genuine.

I keep thinking about the sLfm record coming out and how dark it is. My friend Jessie told me that its something not necessarily bad if you release something that doesn’t cause everyone to feel upbeat and dancy, that sometimes it is really more important to just get these feelings out. I feel a lot happier doing that record, and i feel like listening to “The Sea” that Corinne has just had to put a lot down on paper with her husband passing away.
I couldn’t imagine writing a record coming off of those emotions.

I’d have to give the record a 4 out of 5.
Really dark and full of despair and emotion, but something that a contemporary jazz listener will definitely be able to enjoy.

Ga gah!

Wow.
An experience that everyone should enjoy in IMAX 3D.
Visually stunning and a film everyone and anyone can appreciate from its storyline, acting, or amazing visuals.

5 out of 5.

Froyo

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Yes “froyo”, which most may know by frozen yogurt is a popular dish for substituting ice cream but is usually never as good. I know what you’re thinking. “OMG you haven’t had Pinkberry? Its like so fucking good man!” Yea, well i’ve had it, it was okay. Its like that really attractive girl everyone is always talking about, and then one day you meet her and you’re like, “O’ hey, you’re that girl everyone talks about? Nah nah, its all good. Its just, you’re like… not that hot.” Yea that’s what Pinkberry was like for me. But never fear! There’s a place on Thayer st. in Providence, RI called “Juniper” that is owned by (could only pick out a few syllables of an accent here and there) some lovely Koreans!

Highly recommend. Its delicious!
I got the original flavor with some fresh mangoes, pineapple, and pistachios!
